APRIL 2010

Kia ora art-friends

How are you all?

Enormous apologies for the delay in my 'TWO-MONTHLY' newsletter. In fact dearest hearts, it has been nearly a YEAR since I last wrote!!

I have sent you the odd art exhibition invite but apart from that I have been a little...... mute. (Hard to believe but true!)

However.....it's been a year now since I opened and whilst I would like to have had a 'HOT GINGER 'first birthday, it won't be this month!

The good news is, that I am very pleased and grateful to have my little space. It has been an INCREDIBLY successful venture and I am always blown away to meet visitors that have come to visit, having heard of the gallery from others.  It's been a great year and I hope things just keep getting better as the gallery gets more well-known! Thankyou mostly..... to ALL of you who have supported me and kept things going. Without you I would have been twiddling my thumbs talking to myself. (Possibly having  to return to my REAL talent....Irish dancing and................ mime!)

Oh and I must especially mention Dave Footish, Gypsy Apple , my John , Shaz, young Jaz and Sophie Kitten for being amazinglyly helpful and supportive. They bring me treats, work in the gallery, sew, and make me laugh! They are the HOT Ginger cheer team! So cheers to you all! Thankyou thankyou thankyou!

So away we go.....here it is.......flying solo! By that I mean it is no longer MOJO anymore. HOT GINGER now stands on its own two feet.

BTW, Joanna is having a fabulous time still on Waiheke Island and has just had a recent, and VERY successful  showing at Warwick Henderson in Auckland. If you wish to stay in contact, you can email her directly.

Sooooooo.......................... what's been happening........................????

 _____________________________________________________________________

Hmmmmm......... I thought to myself.......do I fill you in on a years worth of art-stuff? Well I could.......but that would perhaps be somewhat tedious. So I shall debrief, and share the highlights with you.

*Last year I conducted two terms of art classes. It was fabulous, although my students had major behavioural issues. I bought a 'naughty chair' and they sat in it constantly. But although they are very disobedient students, they are also very brave! They have willingly, and with great pride, decided to show you  piks of themselves and their works. They will be pleased to know that this newsletter goes out to several thousand people around the world!! By the way....all but one had NOT painted before!

So here are my 'special stars'. (Actually one elected herself as teacher's pet but she failed miserably. Can you guess which one?)

Did you guess which one ??

Farewell to Sophie too as she returns to uni in May......a very talented and passionate young woman with a bright future ahead of her! It's been a blast Soaf! Thankyou so much!X

COMMISSION paintings!

Many of you ask, "  How do we go about this?"

It's quite simple really. Even though you might not be quite sure of what you want, I can help you with suggestions as to how the process goes.

So it basically goes like this....

* You tell me your budget

* I then tell you what medium I will use...the size,.............. and the estimated time of completion.

* I then ask you a series of questions. Then...... ALL these ideas come flooding through! (It's scarey I tell you!...) I utilise some, filter out the other and suggest the remainder to you. We 'to and fro' by email until you are reasonably satisfied that I have 'got it'.....and, 'got you'!

* Some colours are discussed but please dont ask me to match your curtains.....or your couch. That would hurt my head!

Here's my latest made for a lovely young lady in Paihia!

By the way, because I have the gallery now I am also able to help you with art-work..... even if it is NOT my style. I have access to many, many wonderful artists doing all sorts of AMAZING works. Portrait, scenery, sculpture,  outdoor garden art, ....decor....etc etc. My best advice is.......BUY NZ -MADE!

Confusious say: "If you buy NZ art-works, you will have Great luck and have BIG lotto win!"

ART HOUSE-Calls

If you would like me to come around for a cuppa and discuss renovating or updating ...or even beginning, your art collection, then please give me a call. It's generally great fun and worth the chaos! (There are now several locals who can now testify to this!)

I will and can, load up the HOT GINGER ALPHA ROMEO with a selection of artworks and travel to your house and/or business. Together we can clamber the furniture and fixtures (not unlike the Tibetan mountain-goat), till you are satisfied with your selection.

If you require me to come to you overseas, then send the air tickets and I will be there next week! (If you currently reside in Europe, it might be in two months!)

Anyway tis a lot of fun and if you don't like anything, (virtually impossible) you are of course, not obliged to purchase!

ART-News

The highlight of my art year to date was flying  to Christchurch assisted by two of my daughters, to view the incredible exhibition and works of Seraphine Pick.

I would have to say she is perhaps my favourite NZ female artist.....and for good reason. She reveals remarkable visual stories which generally manage to perplex or unsettle the viewer. It was just mind-blowing . The girls enjoyed the viewing once.......whilst I trundled through 3 times....and of course.....bought the book. I clutched the book under my arm for a few weeks and walked with it everywhere. It was never far out of sight!

I cannot begin to say which would have been my favourite.....there were so many.

EVERWOOD

Just to let you know that I now have work at "Everwood" at Mt Maunagnui, Tauranga. Everwood is a stunning design and furniture store managed by the effervescent Rosie Blockey (formerly of Roselles inTauranga)

The store is situated on the corner of Hull and Newton Road  at the Mount...opposite the net ball courts. I have had work in there since they opened last year but for the most part it has all gone...........sold!

In fact I sold 3 in there a week ago!! Thankyou Everwood!

So I actually havent got any work in that at the moment, but I am working hard to rectify that!

Rosie was the buyer of my very first work.....and has since gone on to purchase......a few more or so.

Here's Everwood http://www.everwood.co.nz/ or you can contact Rosie directly rosie@everwood.co.nz

 *******************************************************************************************

I am now on a serious mission to work towards my solo exhibition using the gorgeous frames bought for me by an art benefactor. I have nine of these frames in varying  sizes. The boards are being made this week and I have all the paint, linen and product required to begin this body of work.

I completed a work last year in one of the frames and sold it just recently which was a major coup for me.It validated the work and time there will be involved to complete this exhibition. The works included will be differing in style but nonetheless, something special ......with an element of mystery. Stories to be told.......stories to be told.......

 When Delilah Plays

If anyone is interested in perhaps including something they would like to pre-purchase then please let me know before I begin. I have two such interested parties and will be working with them to create some magic to be included int his exhibition! If you have a serious request in mind, then I can let you know the prices and show you the frames privately.

The frames by the way.....are exquisite!!!
